Your Mission…
Before taking a hike, kayaking, or fishing around Puget Sound, it is important to check the tides! Your mission is to use a tide chart to determine what the tide prediction is at Dupont Wharf/Nisqually Reach on September 15, 2021 at 9:15 AM.
Learning how to look up tide predictions will also help you complete the Nisqually Reach Nature Center’s Part 2 – Shore Crabs (Dupont Wharf/Nisqually Reach) mission as well as accessing the Priest Point Park Flora Vista Beach Trail (Budd Inlet) and the Evergreen Beach (Rocky Point, Eld Inlet) missions. Make sure you select the corresponding tidal location for the different areas as timing differs from one location to another. Happy Sleuthing!

How do I look up tides?
At Nisqually Reach Nature Center (NRNC), we prefer to use deepzoom.com when looking at tides. Follow the directions below to learn how to use this resource to determine what the tide will be doing!
1. Visit deepzoom.com
2. Tides differ depending on location. In order to get an accurate tidal prediction for NRNC’s beach, use the map on the webpage and find the Dupont Wharf/Nisqually Reach location. This can be found by clicking on the corresponding yellow square on the map. Check out the photo for guidance in finding the station on the map (red arrow).
***Evergreen Beach and Priest Point Park Missions require you to check tides using the Rocky Point, Eld Inlet (Evergreen Beach) or the Olympia/Budd Inlet (Priest Point Park) station indicated by the purple arrow.***
3. If you have clicked on the correct yellow square, it should say Dupont Wharf as shown in the picture above.
4. You can change the date by clicking on the calendar icon.
5. Once you have selected the location and date for which you want to know the tide, use your mouse to click on the yellow circle (red arrow) and slide the circle to the left or right to change the time. The exact tide prediction along with the time will be displayed on the graph on the right (purple arrow).
